April 25, 2020- Elizabethtown Area High School seniors Anna DeGoede and Liam Hanley were named the Elizabethtown Rotary Club’s students of the month for April. DeGoede and Hanley were honored for their high academic achievement and extensive involvement in school and community service activities.

DeGoede is the daughter of Kurt and Beth DeGoede of Mount Joy. She is a member of the prestigious National Honor Society. DeGoede is active in numerous school programs including concert band, marching band, orchestra, and pit orchestra. She is senior editor for the school newspaper. She is a sliver key recipient in the Scholastic Writing Awards program.

In the community, DeGoede is active with the Elizabethtown College Community Orchestra and Band. She is a member of Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren.

DeGoede plans to attend Hofstra University and obtain a degree in English.

Hanley is the son of James and Mary Jo Hanley of Bainbridge. He is a member of the prestigious National Honor Society. Hanley is a member of the Student Council where he serves as co-chair of Community Service Committee. He is also active with Key Club, the Mind and Body Club (Race Director- Run For The Health Of It 5k), Science Olympiad, Science Fair, and is a member of the high school’s ice hockey team.

In the community, Hanley is a member of the Conoy Lions Club. His community service work includes helping out with the American Legion-Libhart Dyer Post 197 and at Conoy Township Summer Playground. He is active with the Hershey Junior Bears Ice Hockey program. He is a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hoernerstown, PA.

Hanley plans to attend Bemidji State University, dual majoring in Biochemistry and Aquatic
Biology. After graduation, he would like to enlist in the United States Navy with the ultimate goal of becoming a Navy SEAL.
