December 6, 2019- Elizabethtown Area High School seniors Rachel Handshew and Jesse Myers were named the Elizabethtown Rotary Club’s students of the month for December. Handshew and Myers were honored for their high academic achievement and extensive involvement in school and community service activities.

Handshew is the daughter of Michael and Deborah Handshew of Elizabethtown. She is a member of the prestigious National Honor Society. Handshew holds leadership positions in numerous school programs including being president of the Key Club, treasurer for the Class of 2020, and a committee member on the high school’s Mini-THON planning team. She is also active with the swimming and cheerleading teams, pep club, and is a founding member of the hiking club. Through her work with Key Club, Handshew has supported the GEARS Fall Fest, the Lititz Chocolate Walk, and the Kiwanis Club’s Breakfast with Santa initiative.

Handshew is active in the community where she has performed with and assisted at the E-Dance Center. She has also performed with the Susquehanna Dance Center and Company Dance. Handshew is a lifeguard and swimming team member at the Willowood Swim Club. Handshew is an active member at Christ Lutheran Church in Elizabethtown.

Myers is the son of John and Kim Myers of Elizabethtown. He is a member of the prestigious National Honor Society. Myers holds several leadership positions at the high school including the captain of the cross-country team and co-leader of the Bible Club. He is also active with Key Club, the competition science team where he medaled at the state Science Olympiad event, and the high school’s “See You At The Pole” initiative.

In the community, Myers is a staff member in the dietary services division at Masonic Village Healthcare Center. Myers is an active member at Bossler Mennonite Church and attends Elizabethtown Brethren in Christ’s youth group.

Myers plans to either enter the electrical trade or attend a post-secondary institution to obtain a degree in Material Science.
