December 15, 2022- Elizabethtown Area High School (EAHS) seniors Munia Kamal and Dax Kelly were named the Elizabethtown Rotary Club's Students of the Month for December. This program celebrates and recognizes student achievements by sustaining a culture of learning that values academic success and raises awareness of student contributions to the EAHS community.

Kamal is the daughter of Muhammad and Nazmum Kamal of Elizabethtown. As a junior, the high school inducted Kamal into the prestigious T.H. Ebersole Chapter of the National Honor Society for exhibiting the four pillars of scholarship, character, leadership, and service. 

In the academic arena, Kamal has earned numerous accolades. She is an AP Scholar and the Bausch+Lomb Honorary Science Award Winner. In addition, the high school faculty recognized Kamal for outstanding achievement and growth in numerous curricular areas as part of the underclass awards program. She was honored with academic excellence awards in Honors Geometry, Honors Biochemistry/Biotechnology, and Advanced Placement Macroeconomics.

Kamal holds leadership positions in numerous school activities. She is the Class of 2023 Historian and editor for the school newspaper. She interns at the middle school serving as a pre-algebra classroom tutor. Kamal is also heavily involved in the high school's music and theater departments. She plays the violin in the orchestra and pit orchestra and has worked on the stage crew, helping to build sets. Kamal also interns with the music department observing and assisting with middle school string lessons

In the community, Kamal volunteers at the Elizabethtown Public Library.

Her plans after graduation include attending a four-year college or university to pursue a degree in engineering and participate in music- and art-related activities.

Kelly is the son of Shawn and Bree Kelly of Elizabethtown. As a junior, the high school inducted Kelly into the prestigious T.H. Ebersole Chapter of the National Honor Society for exhibiting the four pillars of scholarship, character, leadership, and service.

Kelly also holds leadership positions in numerous school activities. He is a two-year captain of the soccer team, a student council member, and a MiniTHON captain. He is also a member of the basketball and lacrosse teams. The Lancaster-Lebanon League named Kelly an all-star and section MVP in soccer and an academic all-star in basketball. Capping off his senior season, the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association named Kelly to its all-state team.

As a basketball team member, Kelly has volunteered for many community service projects.

After graduation, Kelly plans to attend Penn State University to pursue a degree in engineering.
