September 21, 2020- Elizabethtown Area High School seniors Laura Maxwell and Garrit Witters were named the Elizabethtown Rotary Club’s students of the month for September. Maxwell and Witters were honored for their high academic achievement and extensive involvement in school, and community service activities.

Maxwell is the daughter of Michael and Rebecca Maxwell of Elizabethtown. She is a member of the prestigious National Honor Society. Maxwell is an accomplished musician where she is active with the concert band, marching band, pit orchestra, and orchestra. She is also a member of the Key Club, Bible Club, Newspaper Club, and Book Club.

Maxwell has earned numerous awards during her high school years. She received the high school’s Academic Excellence Award in Honors English Award, Academic Excellence Award in Career and Finance Award, and Lifetime Activities Award as part of the school’s underclass awards program.

Maxwell is active in the community where she serves in the Teen Volunteer Program at the Masonic Village. She is both a dancer and teacher assistant with the E-Dance Center.  She is also an active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Elizabethtown.

Maxwell plans to attend college to become an Occupational Therapist.

Witters is the son of Gary and Christine Witters of Elizabethtown. He is a member of the prestigious National Honor Society. Witters holds numerous leadership positions at the high school including President for the Class of 2021 and Mini-THON Fundraising Committee Captain. He is also active with the EAHS Competitive Coders program, serves as a student ambassador, and is a member of the Mind & Body Club.

Witters has earned numerous awards at EAHS including being named an AP Scholar through the College Board. Witters received the Administrative Leadership Award, Academic Excellence Award in Honors Electronics and Robotics, and the Academic Excellence Award in Video Production.

In the community, Witters volunteers with Elizabethtown Area Communities That Care and is a Bigs and Littles Program mentor. He has received numerous honors for superior customer service as an employee at GIANT.

Witters plans to attend the Rochester Institute of Technology to pursue a degree in cybersecurity engineering.
